Moody Midnight Pantry with Farrow & Ball Paint

April 29, 2016

Back in February, we teamed up with Farrow & Ball to share the Nine New Colors they added to their 132-color collection. Throughout April and May, Remodelista editors are applying the colors in our own homes. First, Danny brightened his office with Vardo, then Alexa gave life to lifeless furniture using Worsted and Salon Drab. Today, contributing editor Justine Hand puts Inchyra Blue to work.

Justine is typically partial to neutrals at home; most of her Newton, Massachusetts, house is painted in French grays and “warm, Scandinavian whites.” For Justine, the time had come to experiment with a little moodiness and color.

It’s one of her favorite features of the house, but its existing orange-hued stain had to go. And to Justine, “a painted pantry felt more historic.” She painted it in two coats of moody Inchyra Blue.

Above: Justine first prepped the surfaces with two coats of Farrow & Ball’s Interior Wood Primer & Undercoat; it was more than enough to make the Inchyra go on smoothly. Says Justine, “What I love about this blue is how much it changes according to the light. At one moment it’s more green, the next a deep blue.”

Above: Justine has been delighted to learn how Inchyra Blue “complements a variety of my favorite colors—from iron-stone white to gold and even pinks and purples.”

Above: It also nicely offsets the acid green of foliage, like these maple buds. As a photographer, Justine enjoys experimenting with the chiaroscuro light of her new pantry.
